Delaware Psychiatric Center – Luncheon

February 19th, 2020

On February 19th of 2020, the CFG Residency Outreach team went further south than ever before – way down to Delaware! We had the opportunity to meet and greet the Residents of Delaware Psychiatric Center.  Although these Residents were new to CFG, they warmly welcomed us with engaging questions on relevant topics for residents as they navigate through residency and beyond.

The afternoon first started with lunch and getting familiar with each other.  Carmelyn Vedar and Teddy Costa of the Residency Outreach team had arranged the day for both parties to get together.  Having first met three of the Residents at a prior Eagles Viewing Party event in Philadelphia, we were happy that we were introduced to their colleagues.  Karly Settle, CFG’s Senior Physician Placement Specialist, made time as well to join in the lunch and take on enthusiastic questions about all that CFG currently does.

We also had the honor of a direct Q&A session that lasted over an hour with CFG’s very own, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and Medical Director, Dr. Patrick Cleary.  Residents gained valuable insight as they brought honest questions to Dr. Cleary concerning what to expect post-residency as they enter new roles as independent practitioners.  The topics of interviewing and contract-negotiating was a much welcomed discussion for most residents who mentioned that their experience and knowledge was limited in this department. We look forward to presenting more equally relevant topics to Residents that may not always be a part of their curriculum.

This DE residency group is a population of just under 20 residents. Each one of them had wonderful things to say about their program. A few had expressed interest in learning more about our variety of practice settings. Their interest in gaining insight and becoming familiar with our vast opportunities gives us hope for growing our CFG family.

The CFG Residency Outreach program gives special thanks to Chief Resident, Dr. Mayur Makwana and all of the other DE Psychiatric Center Residents who helped make this collaborative day happen.  Now that the two organizations have met, there’s room for a great relationship moving forward into the future!
