Center For Family Guidance, PC is proud of the many physicians, psychologists, social workers, advanced practice nurses and support personnel which make up our staff.

Many of our dedicated professionals are accomplished in their respective fields for their clinical work, their research, or their contributions to improving the delivery of mental health services to the public. They are focused, creative, and readily embrace our mission to provide the best possible services to our patients and customers. By maintaining a staff of mental health professionals fully accredited at different levels, Center For Family Guidance, PC is able to bring flexible customized programs to organizations and individuals. 

James R. Varrell

James R. Varrell

MD Medical Director and President

The founder and Medical Director of Center for Family Guidance, Dr. Varrell is American Board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, and certified in American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Varrell has the ability to think outside the box in a way that brings success to the projects in which he becomes involved. He displays his creative abilities, great dependability and effective skills in psychiatry through his development and implementation of mental health treatment systems to numerous individuals, families and organizations. Dr. Varrell has an extensive background in child and adolescent psychiatry. His continuing success is easily seen through his development and implementation of psychiatric treatment systems through inpatient psychiatric units, hospitals and residential facilities, acute settings in correctional facilities, (adult and juvenile), as well as in school systems. He is widely known and recommended throughout New Jersey and is greatly respected for his talent as a psychiatrist and entrepreneur. Departmental activities include physician liaison with other medical professionals, utilization management, continuing medication education and management of our quality improvement program. He actively participates in the establishment of protocols, clinical policies and audit activities.

Ron DeFeo

Ron DeFeo, MSEd.

Chief Executive Officer of CFG Health Network

Ron DeFeo brings over 25 years of clinical and administrative leadership experience in the healthcare and behavioral health sectors. As Chief Executive Officer of CFG Health Network, he oversees the organization’s strategic direction, operational efficiency, and continued growth in delivering high-quality behavioral health services.  

Before his current role, Ron served as Executive Director of Hospital Services, overseeing and managing all hospital-based programs, including sub-acute and acute care services. He then took on the role of Chief Executive Officer for Center for Family Guidance, PC a company within the health network. His expertise in behavioral health operations includes strategic planning, provider management, service expansion, financial acumen, fostering collaboration and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

A passionate advocate for underserved populations, Ron has been instrumental in developing innovative programs, particularly for children and adolescents. He remains actively engaged in local and state hospital-based and behavioral healthcare committees, fostering collaborations that enhance patient care and community well-being.

Sean Fitzpatrick

Sean Fitzpatrick

Chief Financial Officer

Sean joined CFG as Chief Financial Officer in December 2024, bringing over thirty years of healthcare experience from national and regional not-for-profit and for-profit organizations in Pennsylvania, Florida, California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Connecticut. He has spent the past thirteen years in CFO roles as an employee and independent contractor. 

In addition to strengthening the bottom line, Sean’s track record includes guiding continuous performance and process improvement initiatives; integrating strategy, operations, and finance; serving as a trusted business partner to physician, clinical, and administrative colleagues across multiple disciplines and functional areas; and, managing relationships with external stakeholders such as trustees, community groups, vendors, auditors, and financial institutions.

Sean received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and is a Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania. He resides in Downingtown, PA.

Teri Black

Teri Black, LPC, NCC, ACS, CCFP, CTMH, CCTP

Clinical Vice President of Subacute and Outpatient Services

Teri Black is a seasoned clinician and leader with over 20 years of experience in a variety of settings including education, community and hospitals. Her expertise includes operations, treatment, program development and expansion, clinical supervision and training and is focused on best practice. Teri currently is Chair of the Cumberland County Children’s Interagency Coordinating Council (CIACC) along with being the Cumberland County representative to the Southern Regional CIACC. Additionally, Teri holds certifications as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH), Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional (CCFP) and holds her Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) certification. Teri is trained in multiple modalities and evidence-based practices including Motivational Interviewing, Nurtured Heart, ACT, CISM, and CBT. Teri also has interest in neurobiological basis for behaviors and integrates this knowledge and training into supervision, mentorship and training. She is committed to ongoing growth and best practice for all of CFG and its providers. This position takes a lead role in supporting the clinical needs of our Outpatient Offices, and the clinical and operational needs of our Partial Hospitalization Programs and School Based Services. 

Emily Koifman

Emily Koifman, MSN, RN, PMH-BC

Vice President of Operations for Hospital and Community Based Services

Emily has many years of nursing and behavioral healthcare experience including the Director of Nursing role for a large Behavioral Health hospital in New Jersey. She held a per diem role as an Administrator with the same behavioral health system. Emily has her Master’s Degree in Nursing with a concentration in Administration. Her extensive hospital based behavioral health experience is invaluable to the services CFG and our partners provide throughout New Jersey. 

Dena Ferrell

Dena Ferrell

Director of Hospital Services

Dena has over 30 years’ experience in various behavioral health settings including Partial Care Programs, Intake services, Inpatient units and Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services. She has been with CFG for over 16 years and is certified in Project Management. She started CFG’s Virtua Intake/Case Management Service in 2007, created the CFG Access Center in 2009, was the Director of Operations for InSight Telepsychiatry from 2013-2019 and was the Project Manager/Contract Administrator for CFG Operations from 2019-2023. Dena oversees CFG’s hospital partner sites in the South Jersey area.

Barry Robinson

Director of Human Resources

Mr. Robinson joins CFG with over 23 years of Human Resources Management experience. His proven track record of recruitment expertise across a multitude of industry’s is evidence of his mastery. Creating a nurturing, caring and efficient environment for all employees can be seen in his experience with EEO compliance applications, time & attendance policies, wage & salary administration and employee benefits. Mr. Robison holds an HR Management Certificate and Project Management Certificate from Rutgers Institute for Management & Executive Development.

Moira Roberts

Moira Roberts, MBA

Director of Outpatient Services

Moira holds two Master’s Degrees including an MBA from St. Joseph’s University and an MSW from Rutgers University. She has over 25 years of management experience including seven years with CFG, the last five years as Outpatient Office Manager. Moira is proficient in NextGen EMR and PM, patient portal and the third-party integration programs of InstaMed and Medfusion.

Jennifer Melancon

Jennifer Melancon MS, LPC, ACS

Director of A Step Ahead Partial Hospitalization Programs - Inspira Bridgeton & Elmer

Jennifer Melancon, is a seasoned clinician and behavioral health leader with over 15 years of experience in mental health treatment, program development, and clinical supervision. As Director of Partial Hospitalization Programs at Center for Family Guidance at Inspira Behavioral Health Bridgeton and Inspira Behavioral Health Elmer, she oversees operations, develops and trains clinical teams, and ensures access to acute behavioral healthcare in southern New Jersey.

Jennifer began her career providing trauma-focused therapy to children and families impacted by Hurricane Katrina. She later transitioned into leadership roles, designing curricula and training protocols to support clinicians in high-acuity settings. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), she is trained in multiple evidence-based modalities, including TF-CBT, DBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing.
With a strong interest in interpersonal neurobiology and the autonomic nervous system, Jennifer integrates this knowledge into clinical care and staff training. She remains committed to ongoing learning and advancing best practices to improve patient outcomes and clinician support. 

Amy Quick

Amy Quick LPC

Program Director

Amy has over 25 years of management experience including 20 years with CFG. For over 15 years She has been the Director of the CASTLE (Children Achieving Success through Therapeutic Life Experiences) Pediatric Behavioral Health Program located in Camden NJ. As CASTLE’s Director, she oversees clinical and administrative operations, management of onsite providers, and regulatory and accreditation compliance. Her passion is to create opportunities and access to care for underserved populations and ensure high quality care for children and their families. Amy received her Master’s Degree in Art Therapy at Drexel University.
